In a dazzling display of community spirit, festival lights have been installed across Halsey Street, marking a significant milestone in Newark’s ongoing revitalization efforts. This ambitious project, a collaborative endeavor between the Newark Alliance, Newark Downtown District, Prudential Financial, McLaren Engineering Group, and local stakeholders, serves as a testament to the power of collective action in transforming urban landscapes. Aligned with Newark’s goals, these streetscape changes aim to boost foot traffic, enhance commercial areas, and improve public safety downtown.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony also served as the platform for the exciting announcement of the recipients of the Retail Reactivation Grant. The City of Newark and Invest Newark have allocated $2.3 million to support black-owned businesses in the city’s Arts & Education District. This initiative aims to revitalize vacant retail spaces and enhance Newark’s cultural landscape.Engineering Newark's Streetscape Upgrades
McLaren’s civil team has been working with Newark Downtown District (NDD), a privately funded nonprofit organization, providing a suite of engineering services to expand its Streetscape Design Project. This includes updates to the district’s wayfinding program, the design of decorative festival lighting throughout the city, and street lighting for previously unimproved sections of the district.
