The Hudson Tunnel Project will construct a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River while the existing North River Tunnel is restored—ultimately creating four tracks for Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains in and out of New York.
Consisting of multiple construction projects (including the Manhattan Tunnel Project) the Hudson Tunnel Project is a key part of the ongoing expansion and renovation of the Northeast Corridor, the busiest passenger rail line in the U.S.
McLaren's Role in the Manhattan Tunnel Project Team
The Manhattan Tunnel Project is building the portion of the tunnel that connects to the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing and preparing the ground under Manhattan’s West Side for tunnel boring.
As part of the Frontier-Kemper-Tutor-Perini JV (FKTP) team awarded construction of the Manhattan Tunnel Project segment, our Marine and Construction Engineering teams are providing engineering, survey, and inspection services for work near the shoreline and crossing into the Hudson River.
Through a Design-Build partnership with Delve Underground and FKTP, our scope includes drill platform design and engineering services during construction. The drill platform will extend beyond the existing Hudson River Bulkhead and over the Hudson River. Access to this soil improvement area from above will offer significant schedule opportunities to the Manhattan Tunnel project and reduce congestion on land. Additional services to be performed include hydrographic surveying, geotechnical investigation, permitting support, and periodic inspection of existing waterfront structures.
