The final phase of the Pier 42 revitalization project has reached completion, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week! Located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, this transformative project has turned an 8-acre industrial site into a vibrant recreational pier and adjacent upland park along the East River.
Multidiscipline Waterfront Project
McLaren Engineering Group provided comprehensive engineering services, including marine, structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering, to bring this vision to life. Our contributions spanned structural upgrades to the seawall beneath the pier, the pier deck, overall redevelopment of the pier, creation of an upland park, and adaptive reuse of industrial structures.
The new park features playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, a synthetic turf athletic field, a pavilion with seating, and connects to the Manhattan Greenway and East River Waterfront Esplanade, linking the neighborhood to a broader network of green spaces.
Working alongside Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, NYCEDC, NYC Parks, and NYCDDC, this project provides much-needed continuous recreational waterfront access to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, offering residents and visitors enhanced green space and amenities.
