A big plus: pool floated for New York’s East River

Striving to reclaim the waters around Manhattan as a recreational urban resource, + POOL has received its official “confirmation to proceed with due diligence” for a proposed site on the East River!

The avantgarde water-filtering, floating pool design offers 9,500 sq ft of swim space with water purifying walls that can filter up to 600,000 gallons of river water a day.

McLaren’s marine team studied the feasibility of various sites throughout the NYC harbor to understand what physical conditions would be ideal for the development of +POOL.

If it looks familiar, it may be because in 2019 a mini + Pool concept art structure was installed at South Street Seaport to bring awareness to water quality issues and gain public support for the initiative. McLaren provided permitting, marine engineering, and project management for the framing and floating system of the 50 ft. by 50 ft. interactive display that changed color based on the quality of water passing through it.
