25th Street Wharf Rehabilitation

McLaren Engineering Group worked with Lafarge North America to provide waterfront rehabilitation design services on the 25th Street Wharf located at the mouth of the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY. The site is currently the operational home for Lafarge North America, and is utilized as a heavy industrial facility. McLaren ensured the quality and lifespan of the structure through inspection, repair design and a maintenance program.

The McLaren Difference: Applied Ingenuity

McLaren performed underwater and above water condition surveys and assessments including a detailed present value capital repairs and life span analysis on the wharf, including a marine borer study and pile inspections. The analysis indicated that a routine maintenance program after an initial CAPEX would allow for rehabilitation and not replacement of the structure. This allowed the client to commence operations without compromising the site.

McLaren provided preliminary and final design services with construction cost estimates for rehabilitation of the wharf. McLaren recommended the installation of a new timber fender system to accommodate large ship berthing. Post construction, McLaren continued to inspect and maintain the asset with a repair program in 2014-2015 in accordance with the initial analysis.
