SEPTA’s (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) historic 5th Street Independence Hall train station in Philadelphia, PA has undergone a rehabilitative transformation into a modern, multi-modal transit gateway for travelers arriving at the birthplace of America.
At sidewalk level, the western entrances now have new simple glass headhouses designed to withstand structural loads. McLaren worked with W&W Glass LLC to provide structural design review of the stair enclosure’s glass walls and roof, as well as the fittings.
After $20 million in upgrades including new signage, lighting, and several underground murals, construction is complete and the 5th Street transportation stop is fully operational.
