McLaren Engineering Group completed structural engineering and design services on two new luxury apartment buildings in Orlando, FL. The two four-story buildings totaled 584,300 square feet and were primarily constructed of wood-framed roof and floor trusses, wood-framed bearing, shear walls, and a post-tensioned concrete slab-on-grade with monolithic thickened edges at bearing.
Designing the four-story wood-framed construction was the project’s biggest technical challenge due to strength limitations of wood framing. Above four stories, wood framed buildings often require more expensive solutions like concrete or steel pedestal construction at the lower stories. The McLaren team was able to make a wood-framed solution work with a creative and custom approach, providing luxury at an affordable price.
