McLaren Engineering Group provided structural engineering design services for the glass structures at Bryant Park’s Winter Village. Located in the heart of New York City, the winter attraction has an ice-skating rink and a variety of small shops and eateries during the holiday season.
McLaren’s entertainment engineers conducted a structural analysis of three large temporary tent structures (ranging from 99 feet to 115 feet tall) made of glass that sit in the middle of Bryant Park. The glass tents surround the skating pavilion and a restaurant. Anchored by a ballast system, these custom holiday pop-up tents are constructed to specifically withstand a harsh New York City winter. All designs were required to accommodate the park’s limited access, and to avoid the various obstacles within park, while completing this fast-track project.
