World’s Largest Hammock

McLaren Engineering Group assisted King Digital Entertainment, the creators of “Candy Crush”, to celebrate the launch of their new app, “Paradise Bay,” by engineering the world’s largest hammock for a record breaking installation at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. The hammock made the Book of Guinness World Records, measuring at a grand 65 feet long by 31 feet wide.

McLaren’s entertainment engineering team designed aluminum truss spreader bars, covered with plywood, that separated the hammock termination lines to crane pick points to secure the support structure. The firm also engineered 35-foot-tall palm trees, comprised of aluminum rental truss and a custom-welded pipe that adorned decorative palm leaves. The structure was covered with burlap, creating the illusion that the hammock was supported by real palms. These “trees” were stabilized using multiple steel cables and earth anchors.

Survey to Confirm World’s Largest Hammock

During construction, McLaren’s survey team provided information to the Guinness World Records to verify the hammock’s dimensions.
